The FluSight Challenge 2022/23 is Metaculus’s second annual tournament contributing forecasts to the yearly FluSight forecasting efforts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Every year in the US, influenza causes hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and tens of thousands of deaths, but the timing and magnitude of the flu season varies, making it difficult to prepare for its impact.

Flu forecasts by Metaculus and other forecasting teams can be invaluable to healthcare providers, and inform treatment timing, hospital preparation, mitigation strategies, and the distribution of healthcare resources.
