On February 24, 2022, the day Russia invaded Ukraine, US President Joe Biden gave a prepared speech on how the US would respond:
Although we provided over $650 million in defensive assistance to Ukraine just this year - this last year, let me say it again: Our forces are not and will not be engaged in the conflict with Russia in Ukraine. Our forces are not going to Europe to fight in Ukraine but to defend our NATO Allies and reassure those Allies in the east.
How much foreign aid will the US provide Ukraine in 2022?
This question will resolve as the total amount of foreign aid provided by the US government to Ukraine (for any purpose, not only defense) during the fiscal year 2022, in US dollars. Resolution will be sourced from ForeignAssistance.gov, by selecting Obligations as the Funding Phase, All Agencies as the implementing agency and 2022 as the fiscal year. If this website is no longer available, another suitable publication by the US government will be used.
