As you’ve noticed, we’ve recently changed the data available through our API. We apologise for the suddenness of the change. Unfortunately it was necessary to prevent bad actors from abusing an advance notice. We’ve also been slower than we hoped to be in providing the clarity you need, and we appreciate your patience.
Here is an overview of the data that will be available in the API going forward.
### Your own data
For any user account, that account’s own data (predictions, scores, comments, etc.) is available to it in the API.
### Community Prediction
The Community Prediction and other aggregates are no longer generally available through the API.
We agree this will in the medium term disadvantage bots relative to humans, but we decided this does not outweigh other benefits: hindering the ability to mechanically copy the Community Prediction in tournaments, evaluating bots in the more realistic condition of no available consensus, and limiting the unauthorized commercial use of Metaculus data.
For testing purposes, *the Community Prediction will be available on a small varied set of questions, available soon*.
MiniBench questions that ask about the Community Prediction *will include more historical values of the aggregation history in the question text*.
### Question text and resolution values
The question text (title, context, resolution criteria, fine print, …) of open questions is always available. This allows forecasting.
On closed questions, *each account will have access to the question text and resolution value of every question it has forecasted at least once*. This allows retrospective assessment of performance.
### Comments
To allow bots to access resolution criteria clarifications, *staff comments will be available in the API*.
Bot makers cannot post comments when logged in as their bot. If you want to post comments, please do so using your non-bot account.
### Non-commercial use
If you want to make non-commercial use of Metaculus data, please get in touch! We generally welcome scientific and hobbyist type projects.
### Commercial use
If you want to make commercial use of Metaculus data, also get in touch! This is a relatively newer area for us, and we will discuss every case individually.
### Timeline
The changes from the current state of the API (as of 2026-03-09, marked by italics above) will be rolled out later this week.
Some of you have already reached out to us about broader data access. We will respond on a case-by-case basis over the next few days.
Thank you again for your patience. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments below, on discord, or by email.
