### Exploring AI's Economic Future: What Experts Predict for 2030 In October we brought together economists, AI policy specialists, and professional forecasters for our Threshold 2030 conference. This collaborative effort between Metaculus and Convergence Analysis aimed to chart the potential economic landscape shaped by AI over the next five years. The event featured representatives from leading AI labs, universities, nonprofits, and other institutions, like [Google](https://about.google/?fg=1\&utm_source=google-US\&utm_medium=referral\&utm_campaign=hp-header),[ ](https://www.un.org/)[OpenPhil](https://www.openphilanthropy.org/), [OpenAI](https://openai.com/), the [UN](https://www.un.org/), [MIT](https://www.mit.edu/), [DeepMind](https://deepmind.google/), [Stanford](https://www.stanford.edu/), [OECD](https://www.oecd.org/en.html), [Partnership on AI](https://partnershiponai.org/), [FLI](https://futureoflife.org/), [CARMA](https://carma.org/), [SGH Warsaw School of Economics](https://www.sgh.waw.pl/en), [Convergence Analysis](https://www.convergenceanalysis.org/), [ICFG](https://icfg.eu/), [AOI](https://ai.objectives.institute/), and [FHI](https://www.fhi.ox.ac.uk/). To ground their analysis, participants examined three possible AI development trajectories: 1. **Evolutionary Progress**: AI systems that advance incrementally within existing capabilities 2. **Task Specialization**: Narrow AI systems that outperform humans in most well-defined tasks 3. **General Capability**: AI systems that surpass human performance across all cognitive domains Their key conclusions paint a nuanced picture of AI's economic impact: * Economic transformations will be significant but distributed unevenly across sectors and regions * Physical and regulatory limitations will moderate the pace of AI adoption * Current economic indicators inadequately measure AI's true impact * There's a critical shortage of concrete policy frameworks to address AI-driven economic challenges * More unified expert perspectives are needed to guide governmental responses ## [Read the Full Report: The Economic Impacts of AI by 2030](https://www.convergenceanalysis.org/threshold-2030/comprehensive-summary) We're also opening these forecasting questions to the wider Metaculus community.
